Raising Insurance Skills and Knowledge (RISK)

Community Services Council Newfoundland and Labrador (CSC) designed and delivered a three-hour workshop in 2008 on how to be a wise consumer of insurance products in the voluntary non-profit community based sector. Sessions were conducted in St. John’s and 12 venues around the province between August and November. The project was supported by United Way of Avalon, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Insurance Bureau of Canada Atlantic (IBC), the Cooperators and the Insurance Brokers Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (IBAN). Code of Consumer Rights and Responsibilities

Did you know that the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) has a code of consumer rights? It has been updated recently as a result of recommendations in the Atlantic Task Force on Insurance Availability and Affordability. The code covers your rights to be informed about coverage and the calculation of price when purchasing a policy, privacy rights and complaints resolution, among other things.
