There is a growing understanding within governments of the important role played by voluntary organizations in enhancing community capacity, developing essential human resource skills, building social capital, strengthening social cohesion, and advancing social and economic development. (See Voluntary Sector Initiative for further information about this understanding.)
In an increasingly technology focused world, enVision.ca will build on the important role of the voluntary, community-based sector and increase its key contributions by:
- cataloging ready access to information, resources and funding opportunities for the sector;
- acting as a catalyst for discussion with and within the sector;
- reducing the geographic boundaries by allowing rural, remote, and small voluntary, community-based organizations the same opportunities for timely information-sharing and resources as other organizations have in more populated and resource rich communities;
- increasing productivity of the sector by developing human resource skills in the use of information technology - skills essential for the knowledge-based economy;
- enhancing the profile of the sector by those not currently involved in or informed of it; and
- ensuring a more cohesive and knowledgeable sector!
