Community Priorities Summit focuses on provincial non-profit sector

Approximately 80 members of the voluntary and non-profit sector have come together in Corner Brook for a Community Priorities Summit hosted by the Voluntary and Non-Profit Secretariat. The Honourable Dave Denine, Minister Responsible for the Volunteer and Non-Profit Sector, addressed participants at the opening of the summit which is focused on the discussion and development of solutions for issues facing the sector. Registration open for youth forum on coastal issues

Young peoples' visions for the future of their coastal communities will be a vital part of Coastal Zone Canada 2010 (CZC 2010), to be held on Prince Edward Island this July. Young people (age 16-26) are invited to particpate in Youth on the Coast, July 23-25, just prior to CZC 2010. Read more..

Charity changes announced: Community Services Council Newfoundland and Labrador to watch for revisions by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)

The 2010 Government of Canada budget included changes that will affect all Canadian charities in the near future. Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced March 4 2010 that Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is, "reforming the disbursement quota to reduce administrative complexity and better enable charities to focus their time and resources on charitable activities." Community Services Council Newfoundland and Labrador (CSC) will endeavour to inform charities of new reporting requirements when posted by CRA. Read more..

Nomination Deadline Approaching for URock Volunteer Awards

In just two weeks, the nomination period for the URock Volunteer Awards will close. The Honourable Dave Denine, Minister Responsible for the Volunteer and Non-Profit Sector, today reminded the public to nominate individuals and organizations for the awards by Monday, March 15. The unique URock Volunteer Awards will recognize the contributions of young volunteers and organizations with a connection to young people. Read more..

Community Services Council encourages mentoring in the charitable sector through Atlantic Charities Learning Exchange
